High End Audio Walk-In Closet Sale
I just finished "taking inventory" in my walk-in closet that has been taken over by all forms of audiophile gear. Since I'm interested in moving much of this gear and reclaiming the closet as my own, I thought it should be worthwhile to post a list of this gear on the WWW. Audio equipment:
1) Video Acoustics VA-1500BK subwoofer (have 2 of these subs, both perfect/mint in original boxes with manuals)
This subwoofer utilizes dual 8" woofers in a single box comprising two fully separate chambers. This subwoofer was the top-of-the-line Video Acoustics sub, and cost $700 new. The build and finish quality of the cabinet is excellent, the cabinet is heavily braced (it weighs approx. 70 pounds), and real wood veneers are used on all sides except the bottom. The bottom contains four sets of 5-way binding posts for attaching speaker cables from the amplifier as well as any satellite speakers that you may wish to run from the VA-1500BK using its built-in high pass crossover. Note: the VA-1500BK subwoofer design is passive, meaning that separate amplification is required (max. recommended amplification input: 250 watts). I am reluctant to see these subs go, but I recently purchased a $2800 Velodyne HGS-18 subwoofer, and I need to help fund that purchase.
2) Jamo LCR ONE center channel speaker
This center channel speaker is a remarkable achievement in the sub-$1000 center channel category. It is an attractive and slim three-way design, magnetically shielded so that it can be placed next to a TV. Two sets of input terminals allow adjustment of frequency response to suit either a hanging-on-wall location or a free-standing location. In October '95, when the system was first released, Home Entertainment (UK) wrote: "Best buy of the year... Jamo has just launched a first-rate THX speaker system which gets closer to the heart of film soundtracks than any other at the price." The complete system with two subs and 3 LCR speakers (plus smaller rear surrounds) retailed for $4000. Spec's for the LCR ONE: Woofer: 2x 127mm, Mid: 2x 76 mm, Tweeter: 1x 25 mm, Frequency response: 80-20.000 Hz +/- 2 dB, Sensitivity: 88 dB/2.8V/1 m, Maximum SPL: 112 dB/ 1m, Impedance: 4 Ohm, Power: 250 Watt, Size in mm: 550x436x137, Weight: 12.7 kg, color: black. These high-end center channel speakers sell new for appox $700.
3) Infinity MODULUS mini-monitors
The compact MODULUS speaker is a two-way speaker featuring Infinity's famed EMIT-k tweeter and a custom 51/4" IMG (injection- molded graphite/polypropylene) woofer designed for longer throw, increased linearity, and greater frequency extension to the upper midrange. Its drivers are time-aligned in a unique, low-diffraction, acoustically-inert enclosure, laminated with a scratch-resistant, high-gloss black polyester resin finish. A matching wrap-around grille further minimizes sonic diffraction while complimenting the speaker's striking visual design. The speaker sits on triangulated, resonance-terminating spiked iso-tip feet, which in turn fit into either non-skid vinyl cups (for table top use). The MODULUS audiophile minimonitors retailed for $1000/pair, and won the EISA 1992 Loudspeaker of the Year Award for all of Europe. Also a Class B Recommended Speaker by Stereophile. I use three pairs in my home theatre system with stunning results. These are a truly amazing souding audiophile minimonitor. The only diminuitive speakers I've heard that I find to be more transparent are the Wilson WATT's and the Artemis EOS, but both of these are quite a bit more expensive than the MODULUS. The Infinity MODULUS is a tremendous speaker which sold for $1000 in 1992 -- making them one of the most expensive audiophile minimonitors on the market at that time. Only 9 pairs (all new) are available.
4) ADCOM GFA-7000 THX 5 channel home theatre amplfier
A highly regarded 130watt x 5 THX five channel amplifier. One large toroidal transformers power five separate mono-amplifier modules. One of the best home theatre amps of the market. This amplifier cost $1400, and is brand-new in its box. Adcom has an excellent reputation, and this unit should perform well long after its two year warranty has expired.
5) SONY DAS-703ES digital-to-analog converter
Was SONY's original top-of-the-line ES series D/A converter. Massively built, weighs over 30 pounds and uses superb quality audiophile parts throughout. Cosmetic condition is mint, but a couple of indicator LED's no longer light. Functionally perfect. No box or manual (but self-explanatory to use). Original price was $1800.
6) SONY CDP-703ES cd player (have three, willing to sell one or two)
Was SONY's original top-of-the-line CD player. SONY's 700 series of ES players have long been regarded as top-notch players by numerous audiophiles, and the 703ES is my personal favorite of the 700 series players that SONY has built. Cost $1600 new. Like the DAS-703ES d/a converter, this cd player is also superbly built, weighing close to 35 pounds. As new in mint condition in box with manual. A truly wonderful cd player.
7) Philips CDV-488 laserdisc player (have two to sell)
Philip's most expensive laserdisc player, cost $1400 each. A tremendous player with many nice features. Its remote is the best I've ever seen (Philips charges $475 just for the remote!), with the exception of the top-end Bang&Olufsen remote. Like new, works great. Even competes with most audiophile cd players for standard cd playback.
8) LAT International 12' power cords (2 to sell)
LAT's top-of-the-line AC cords (SS-1000 silver plated Oxygen free copper cable), with hospital-grade connectors. Cost $275 each in 12' length. Mint condition, no box or manual.
9) Krell Cogelco BLACK interconnects (balanced - XLR)
Krell's Cogelco line of interconnects included the Cogelco "Yellow", "Red", and "Black". Each of these models used solid silver conductors. The Black Cogelco contains twice as much silver as the Red, which in turns contains twice as much silver as the Yellow. Thus, the Black Cogelco was the most expensive cable at $700 per meter. I have three balanced sets of the Black Cogelco in lengths of approximately 1.5m, 2.5m, and 5m.
10) INFINITY Reference Standard Series RS 125
One of Infinity's better 2-way speaker designs. Excellent quality, finished with black ash veneer. List price $200/pair. Have two pairs brand-new in their boxes.
11) High-end MCM Audio Select 6.5" woven Kevlar cone woofers
Brand-new drivers, set of four. Each driver's cone utilizes the rigid, lightweight properties of woven Kevlar and a precision matched phase plug to provide outstanding clarity and precise imaging. Set in a die cast basket, these woofers offer the utmost in unaltered performance and value. Cost $220. All are new in their boxes. Will sell all four for $99. Specifications are as follows: RMS watts: 60, Peak watts: 120, Freq Response: 100hz - 14Khz, Impedance: 8 ohms, SPL (db): 94, Voice coil 1.25", Magnet weight: 29.9 inches, Qts.: 0.55, Vas (cu. ft.): 0.23, fs (Hz): 111.

Brand-new quality tweeters sourced from MCM electonics. High-end design with large magnet structure. One pair only. New in boxes. No reasonable offer refused, just want to move these things out.

16) Audax 5.25" midrange drivers
Brand-new quality midranges from Audax. One pair to sell. New in boxes. Model # is HM130X0. Will sell for $49/pair, which is more than 50% off retail.
17) Zalytron Aria 5 Signature cabinets
A truly superior cabinet design by Zalytron. EXTREMELY well made and rigid cabinets, sold for approx. $500 pair a few years ago, direct from Zalytron's factory store. Cabinet wall thickness is double the standard, which makes the cabinets very heavy, but is advantageous for achieving the best possible sound quality. I was going to try to design a cross-over and assemble a pair of speakers using these cabinets and drivers #16 and #13 above (which fit the driver cut-outs perfectly), but I never found the time to learn about cross-over design -- which is why all of these speaker parts are for sale. Best offer over $75 will take the pair. Please note that shipping will be somewhat expensive, even though the cabinets aren't large they weigh a lot (maybe close to 75 pounds total).
18) Small speaker cabinets
A great pair of cabinets for making small speakers. Brand-new, cost approx. $50, will sell for $10. Drivers #14 and #15 above fit the cut-outs, but other drivers will of course fit as well.
19) ESOTERIC Audio T-LOK speaker wire banana terminators
Set of 4 terminators. Audiophile speaker connectors (solid design, 24-karat gold plated). List price of $29. I have eight of these sets that I've never used, which are still unopened in their plastic cases.
